Above: Positioning the Beacon of Hope tower for maximum impact.
Returning to the diagram shown previously in our tour of the Washington Park Neighborhood that highlights the virtues of this unique site, the Beacon of Hope has been arranged strategically to maximize its visibility and inspiration. It can thus fulfill its mission as an invigorating monument to President Obama that captures the spirit of all South Side residents.
Visible for miles, the Beacon activates key view corridors to establish welcoming and inspiring moments throughout the city. In so doing, residents of the South Side are regularly reminded of the advancements of our pioneering president and of the unifying spirit of his time in office – but it is also hoped they will see something of themselves in his likeness. A true landmark, the monument rises above the surrounding streets in a focal position that captures vistas and views, much like the Eiffel Tower, or the Arc de Triomphe.
The following slides demonstrate the presence of the tower and the variety of the captivating visual moments that will be produced. The situational goals are to regularly connect with the broader community, and to spread the Obama message of hope, effort, courage, and prosperity to all residents.
