As the partner organization of the Obama Presidential Center, establishing a visual connection with the University of Chicago is an important consideration.  By situating the Presidential Center across Washington Park from the main campus, this relationship is established, while allowing the two entities to stand on their own.  The dual anchors on either side of the park, in vastly different socioeconomic settings, will help to restore balance to the area.

The slender profile of the Beacon of Hope is evident here, its transparency and reflectivity helping to further reduce possible visual dominance.  Yet, it remains a commanding presence in the spirit of a true monument.
