At the interface between the park and the city, the full experience of the Obama Presidential Center comes into view.  This is an activated part of Washington Park, with a wide assortment of recreational activities, including playgrounds, a waterslide, basketball, and tennis courts.

The Obama Presidential Center’s new gymnasium, visible at the center-left, is positioned directly across from the existing fieldhouse, strengthening the collective ensemble.  It features retracting glass doors that facilitate performances and events, a return to Olmsted’s notion of lively public arts activities in this sector of the his design.
