By repositioning most of The Forum complex in a visible, above-grade configuration, a vital community presence proclaims itself.  Moreover, a strong connection between the interior and exterior of the building can be crafted.  The user experience is thus significantly improved, with broad windows overlooking the Park Embrace and the splendors of its landscapes.

The flow of the interior space is straightforward, with lobby, security checkpoint, restaurant, and lounges leading to a coat check and traditional front-of-house assembly area.  Each of these sequential elements is complimented by views to the Wintergarden, neighborhood, or the Park Embrace.  There is also direct, secure access to the Obama Foundation’s offices from within the Forum complex.  The second floor houses meeting rooms and conference spaces; the lower level is primarily service-oriented, but also houses a full-service recording and broadcasting center.

Large windows, primarily east-facing, are equipped with active exterior louvers to interact appropriately with the morning sun.  Their position is controlled by a sophisticated building automation system, programmatically tracking insolation, interior temperatures, the weather forecast, and expected occupancy to accurately calibrate performance for maximum energy savings.
